Transaction Matching doesn't work

Asked by nicedanmonkey

I'm using KMyMoney 0.9 which I got from the Intrepid repository (I'm using Ubuntu Hardy). Everything seems to work very well but I can't seem to get transaction matching to work. My goal is to make transactions imported from a QIF file to automatically be assigned to the correct payee based off the name. For example, I have transaction matching turned on for my payee "Wal-Mart". In the "Match on Key" field I entered "wal-mart" and I checked the "Ignore Case" box. When I imported the QIF file there was a transaction who's payee was "WAL-MART 0123" Instead of matching that to my "Wal-Mart" payee it just made a new one.

Is there a way to fix that?

It seems to be a known issue with the QIF importer. There have been several improvements to transaction matching, but fot the kbanqing and OFX plugins. Unfortunately, the QIF importer uses a separate logic, which hasn't been updated yet.
There have been talks lately about how to fix it to make it use the same logic as the rest, but it is a substantial effort and the manpower is limited.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I checked with the other devs before answering hoping I could give you a better answer, but that's the current status on this.

Thanks for that answer! I found out that my institution allows me to export my transactions in OFX format too. That works with transaction matching very well. Thanks again.
