reports configuration columns box option doesn't work

In the handbook instructions your Reports custom configuration shows that I can "show columns". However, I can't get this function to work. It does not give me a dialog box with choices that I can check.

That option is available only for reports that are at a transaction level, not for summary reports. There you can select what columns you wish to show.
