Did you try copying to another location?
Could you post the complete error message?

This is the erra message I get

File /home/peter/Desktop/1111 Quicken Data.qif contains the old binary format used by KMyMoney. Please use an older version of KMyMoney (0.8.x) that still supports this format to convert it to the new XML based format.

Is there any other way to do this? Or how do I get older version Kmy money 0.8 x which I don't want

Are you sure it's a valid QIF file?

That message is thrown when KMM is unable to determine the format of the file.

Have you tried to open the QIF file via the import QIF file option, or just via the Open option on the menu?
I'm asking because it should never throw that message when importing a QIF file.

Create a new KMyMoney file, then go to Import QIF. You can only import QIF files into existing files, even if it is a new one.

If you try to open the QIF file, and not import it, you will get that error.

Can you help with this problem?
