Cannot close or delete existing accounts

Asked by Eagle Boy

I am trying to delete an Asset Account. When I right click (or use the Account menu) the option to delete or close the account are grayed out. This account has no schedules or reports linking to it. The only link is between a loan account (that I closed) and it. I cannot find anywhere to break this link in hopes that this is the reason why I cannot close or delete the account.

Also, I cannot delete other closed accounts. They do not have any reference to reports or schedules either. They are closed but when I right click (or account menu) the delete options is grayed out as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

To close an account, the balance must be zero, and no schedules or other entities must reference it.
To delete it, the account must have no transactions.

Under some very particular circumstances, there was a bug, where you had to restart the application to be able to close an account you had just entered a transaction into.

So i have to remove every transaction in the account I wish to delete just to be able to? Is there an option where this will be done automatically and then it will delete the account upon complete removal of the transactions?

Select all transactions, right-click, delete them, and that's it.

Although I don't understand why you would want to delete information. After all, entering it must have taken you some time.

Becuase I have no longer need for the information to that asset account (sold the vehicle). Thanks.

Yes, but those transactions you made to pay the asset probably involve also your banking account, which you probably keep.

You can just close the account, and configure KMyMoney to hide closed accounts, under General settings.

I closed the loan account, but I could not close the asset account (even after I zeroed it out.) but after deleting all transactions from the asset account I was able to delete it. So I have kept the loan account closed and hidden and deleted the asset account. Thanks for the help.
