convert video files from windows to Ubuntu

I have both operating systems on my computer, windows and Ubuntu and I used Pinnacle 14 to edit videos and now wanting to edit them in Ubuntu's Kdenlive's editing system I can not transfer my video files over to use them, even ones that were saved as a AVI file. your help would be welcomed with thanksgiving.

Install the packages gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and you'll be able to play almost everything. If you want codecs to encode too install ubuntu-restricted-extras.
