Kdenlive's Generators (sub)menu under the Project menu is disabled

Asked by nawK on 2016-11-13

In Ubuntu 16.04.1 (codenamed Xenial), Kdenlive's Project->Generators is disabled.

The package version of Kdenlive is 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1

I've consulted the following help forums and the official Kdenlive manual page:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/108023/how-to-insert-countdown-into-a-video-file
https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Projects_and_Files/Clips#Generators

and they suggest that the different generators (e.g. Countdown and Noise) should be available.

Can someone verify me with that this is a bug?

At the time this question was posted, the version of Kdenlive (15.12.3) from the official distro repository has Generators disabled.
If I am not mistaken, the Kdenlive developers intentionally disabled Generators during a period of major overhaul to prevent the software from crashing.

To solve this problem, simply download the latest Kdenlive from their Launchpad PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kdenlive
