Sounds give mostly static, can hear the sounds faintly below the noise

Using Feisty 7.04 - new and first install last night. Kmix is showing current mixer as SBLive! Value [CT4871].
Sound is not muted, when I send a test sound, I can hear it faintly below the static. Speaker volume (hardware knob) is just barely on, icon mouse over shows volume at 80%. Using Amarok, double click on Amarok 1.4 Welcome, I can hear the message, but barely audible with all of the static. Sound card works fine when booted to XP. No idea what to look for to solve this.

This is a quick guess so i'm not sure if it will work but try turning the volume down to at least 50% and turn the knob up.

When I use vlc and turn the volume up in vlc and the volume in everything else down, there is tons of distortion, when i turn vlc down and the volume on everything else up, it is loud and clear.

Though, if you have constant static, i'm not sure what the problem could be :/

 No joy on that one - even turning on mute does nothing for the static.

Fixed - solution was to click on the SB Live Analog/Digital button on the Switches tab.
