MIdi music files

Strangely engough I can play all sounds , most music files, movies with sound, dvd's etc. but when I play a midi music file, I dont know how to make the sound actually have sound. It KMid andit appears to play the file, but really you hear nothing. Im on Ubuntu. Any ideas?
