Can't find video codecs to play my files.

Asked by RedLocque

I have a very large amount of video files in my hard-drive I would like to be able to see while using Linux (Kubuntu), but I seem to be lacking the necessary codecs for the OS's media players to be able to read said files. Before I installed my Kubuntu EdgyEft in my PC, I used and still use WindowsXP. So all the video files I have are in media formats suported by Windows. Which codecs do I need to be able to play my video files and how can I acquire them?

Thank you.

feisty is quite stable now and it addresses this issue... my ubuntu machine now handles windows media better than my mac...

try upgrading to feisty

after you upgrade you should install the "ubuntu-restricted-extras"

Can you help with this problem?
