no sound with kubuntu

Could you provide a bit of information on what kind of hardware you have (sound) and which version of Kubuntu you're using.

Post the output of lspci here if you are unsure about what hardware you are running.

the kubuntu 6.10 the soundcart is ensoniccreative soundblaster pci
[es1371-es1373 works ok with window xp i shut the onbord sound of
in the bios i tried the kabuntu cd and the sound was ok i am new to
linux bud itried all the settings in the mixer

i reinstalled kubuntu the sound was ok after reboot the sound is gone please help or i will give up on linux

go to system-settings -> Multimedia & Sound and check that the sound enabled is.

You can also push the 'Test Sound' Button. What happens when you do that?

I'm having the same problem with this same sound chip but it's in a laptop and there is no way to change or disable sound in the BIOS. Does anyone have any ideas how to get sound working in Ubuntu/Kubuntu for this sound chip?
