mic not working and how to join chatroom

Hi.
 im new with using kubuntu. i was wondering if in this, could i able to join yahoo chatrooms because this is the website im using and if my mic and audio will work.will anybody help how to work with this? thank you very much!

Sometimes the mic (on the computer) is muted. The same mic might work on another machine, where the sound is not muted.

If necessary use something like the program Audacity to play about and make a visible recording.
