CHM support in Okular

Asked by ilia

Vanilla Okular from KDE 4 seems to support CHM format (using libchm). However, Okular provided by Ubuntu does not. What is the reason for dropping CHM support out of Okular? Will we have it back soon?
(Please do not point to other programs for reading chm. I know about them. The question is about Okular.)

I've looked on this bug before asking a question. It tells that okular is not compiled with libchm support because libchm is in universe and okular is in main. The bug is "fixed" by removing the mention of chm support from package description. This looks ridiculous to me, therefore I ask this question.

Then you could compile it yourself and include the chm bit which has been removed.

Otherwise, you could request it as a functionality request.

I know I can build it myself, this is not the issue. The issue is: why feature(s) of a program is(are) cut off by the packager? There are may be some perfectly acceptable reasons, like the feature makes program unstable, causes data loss, conflicts with other software, etc. My question is addressed to package maintainer who decided not to compile chm support in. I wonder, what is the reason for such decision. Is "libchm is not in main" the only reason, or are there any others? I'd like to be well informed before opening the appropriate bug.

When I originally posted this question I hoped that maintainers read the answers section and will answer, but since there are only you and me here I'll try to follow your suggestion (or just open a bug...)
Thanks.
