how do I remove obsolete entries from my user name listing at login?

Asked by ethan aronoff

In Konqueror, when I start to log in to my web mail server I type the first letter of my username and my full user name appears, along with several obsolete user names. Is there any way to delete these obsolete user names?

Tnx much.

Ethan

Thanks for the question.

think they are user accounts that still exist.

You can delete them by going to KMenu->System Settings and then in the section Computer Administration to User Management.

If you don't want to delete the accounts, I believe you can hide them if you go in System Settings to the Advanced tab, and then to the Login Manager. There you need to hit the button Administrator mode and then choose the tab Users. There is a list of users you can hide.

I hope this helps.

Tnx very much for this reply to my question. I tried both approaches that you show here but the user accounts I found did not seem to match up with the ones I would like to delete.

I click on a stored bookmark for my web mail account (Road Runner web mail). Two boxes appear, one above the other. One says Username; the one below it says Password. The Username is my email address. Inside the first box when I type the first letter of my email address, 'e', three email addresses appear, one is the correct one and the other two are obsolete and I would like to delete those. These three email addresses must be stored somewhere in my system. I agree with you that the Login manager should be the logical place where this is stored - but there I found only one user name, not shown as an email address. I think this is the login when starting up Kubuntu.

Tnx very much for your help.

Ah.. I misunderstood you before. I thought you were talking about logging into the computer.

You mean the auto-completion function of your web-browser. In firefox you can go to edit->preferences and then to private data. Then choose Privacy on the top and under Private Data click on Clear now.

However, this will delete everything that is stored like this (i.e. also the correct information).

If you use another browser, please tell us what browser you use.

Tnx much. I greatly appreciate your help. I almost never use Firefox.

My standard browser is the default (in Kubuntu) "Konqueror" browser.

Tnx again.

I have not found a similar function to clear the from information in konqueror. In Settings-Configure Konqueror and then Form Completion you probably can set it to 0 in order to delete all of it, and then set it to a higher amount again.

Another possibility is to look in the home directory into .kde/share/apps/khtml

There are several files for form completions. You might be able to delete the lines that are bothering you.
