Dual-boot problems kubuntu/WinXP

Asked by Merlin

I want to set up dual-boot using Grub to load XP and kubuntu. I got it to work one time not knowing what I did. Other problems popped up and I reworked the whole computer. Is it a partitioning problem? Partitions are set as follows:

200GB HDD

1st 2GB ext3 mountpoint /
2nd ntfs 100+GB
3rd 30GB ext3 mountpoint /home
4th 1024MB swap

Can't seem to duplicate my "error" from before. HELP!

I have a working install of XP and try to load kubuntu 7.04 to partitions outlined above. Where do I go from here?

Load Windows XP first in a smaller partition (say 100gb in your case) Don't set up the balance of your HD space yet - live it for Ubuntu setup.
Make sure that it works.
Now, boot from Live Ubuntu CD and start installing it.
It will ask you about partitioning the free space - make 2nd ext3 "/" and 3rd swap (1024MB is fine)
Continue with Ubuntu setup.
Finish and you should have to working systems to choose from. It worked for me.
Good luck!
