Nothing fancy, just want to play cd's on Amarok

Asked by brockh

All I want to do is to be able to play music cd's on Amarok but I get no sound at all. I browse similar posts and most lead bake to disabling Artsd but for the life of me I am not finding WHERE in the control panel I can do that. I am running on KDS 3.5.10. IF there is a simpler solution out there, I'm not finding it. The funny thing is I have the same problem in Gnome BUT, in Gnome I am able to listen to radio streams but not cd's. Kernel problem? I just need someone to point me in the right direction. My sound card is a Realtek ac97 (which I know is a problem child to start.) Thanks in advance for your help.

No sir, the speaker is not "x'd" out. I also typed what you asked on a term window and got no entry back. Since posting my message, I upgraded to 8.10 and still have the no sound output.

you want to make sure it is enabled. Right mouse button click on the Speaker open Volume Control move up PCM and make sure it isn't muted.

This is what I got:

brock@brock-desktop:~$ dmesg | grep Realtek ac97
grep: ac97: No such file or directory

Can you do dmesg and paste it here please ??? It is usually long I'm looking to see if it listed if it is and enabled then it might be a driver bug. I will look in my database for software driver to fix it.

ok my friend no problem...
it is a driver pack from realtek itself good drivers..
open a terminal cd /tmp
ok most basic files are install like gcc etc.
after you type "cd /tmp" then tar xjf realtek-linux-audiopack-4.06a.tar.bz2 it untars to realtek-linux-audiopack-4.06a
then type "./install" if errors give a yell.

I got this message going to software sources. This woulndt have anything to do with what we are working on would it?

E: Type 'n' is not known on line 46 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: Unable to lock the list directory

no /etc/apt/sources.list is the resources your systems calls upon when it checks for updates or new software to install..
that error unless a url has a messed up link all you have to is run sudo apt-get update on a terminal and if a small list of error occurs then do it again...cause if you look at the last error most times it says fun the command again to correct.
