I'm on Ubuntu 7.04 and tapioca is not part of it. So installing it would require manual steps. I guess this apply to Ubuntu 6.06 too, but I cannot verify it.
If you want an easy way to have Google Talk in Ubuntu 6.06, you could use Gaim which is installed by default (check the Gnome menu "Applications" -> "Internet" -> "Gaim internet messenger").
Google provides the necessary steps to configure Gaim with Google talk: http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24073

If you still prefer tapioca, let me know, I can try to see how to install it :-)

PS: just for my curiosity, what language would you like to see implemented in Ubuntu? You forgot to mention it...

Sorry, I have had a second thought on your issue. Perhaps what you wanted is to be able to use the voice facility (VoIP) of gtalk under Linux.
Tapioca is just a framework that allows that, and actually, the libraries for this framework are in the universe repository of Ubuntu 7.04. They do not seem to be in Dapper (Ubuntu 6.06) or Edgy (Ubuntu 6.10) repositories...
However, to have a graphical user interface (GUI) to use is another matter. There seems to be two contenders:
  * Colligo: http://codeposts.blogspot.com/ however, not yet released, only screenshot teasers are available
  * Landell: http://sourceforge.net/projects/landell/ still in version 0.2 and was not updated since last August

Neither are in the Ubuntu repositories, however an Ubuntu package (.deb) is available for Landell.

Other IM that support or will support voice capabilities with gtalk (http://fossvoip.blogspot.com/2005/12/google-jingle-and-jabber.html):
  - Psi (http://psi-im.org), however still experimental, check: http://psi-im.org/wiki/Jingle_branch
  - Pidgin (ex-Gaim, http://www.pidgin.im/) should support in a near future the library jingle... however, no clear confirmation
  - OpenWengo (or WengoPhone, http://www.openwengo.org/) support for voice with gtalk is planned (but no date yet)
  - Ekiga (http://www.ekiga.org/) jingle is not planned even for the next release: http://blog.ekiga.net/?p=55#comment-7960

If you are just interested with voice capabilities without necessarily compatibility with gtalk voice client, then you could look at this two alternatives:
  - OpenWengo (or WengoPhone, http://www.openwengo.org/)
  - Ekiga (http://www.ekiga.org/)

Hello Huygens,
Thanks for your promptly reply. The language i m going to implement ubuntu is Myanmar (Burma). The country is located in South East Asia. Most existing Myanmar fonts use the Windows 1252 Code Page encoding, but substitute Myanmar glyphs in place of the English (Latin) glyphs. The unicode system is in the developing progress. For more detail please read www.thanlwinsoft.org
Almost users are windows users. But I believe most of them have to migrate to linux for a reason :-). I would like to be ready to assist them when the time come.
So, as i mentioned almost ppl are using gmail and gtalk it would be a good help to prove them that linux is not very much different from windows, when gtalk compatible program is working on it (i mean VOIP).

Hello Snip,
I know where Myanmar is :-), but I did not know your language, and the way it is written looks really beautiful!

For VoIP problem, you should try Psi as it is the only one giving some information about how to use it. I also found out that Kopete (the instant messenger that is default on Kubuntu, http://kopete.kde.org/) as Jingle integrate (still experimental) since release 0.12. You can find more information here: http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Kopete+Jabber+Jingle
It seems that Kopete 0.12 is already in Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft). For Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake), it seems to be in the "back-ported" packages. This mean that you could install Kopete 0.12 on Dapper Drake if you activate the back-ported repository. However the Jingle libraries needed for VoIP with gtalk are not in the repositories of Dapper Drake. You would have to try Edgy Eft at least.

Anyway, if you still want to install Kopete and try it. You should go under "System" -> "Administration" -> "Software sources". There you will get a list of active and non-active repository. Scroll the list for an entry called "backports" and activate it. You can close now this window and launch "System" -> "Administration" -> "Synaptic package manager" and look for Kopete and install it.

As a conclusion, you have those possibilities as of today (from probably the easiest to the most difficult):
  - Use Landell (see my previous message)
  - Use Psi (see my previous message, in their wiki, you have instructions for Debian unstable, you could use them for Ubuntu)
  - Use Kopete (seems a lot of work to me...)

For Psi, in the wiki link (http://psi-im.org/wiki/Jingle_branch), the installation instructions are given under the section "Getting started". There is a dedicated forum on the subject too: http://psi-im.org/forum/thread/3424

In the Ubuntu forums, there are a few threads opened about VoIP and the sorts, here are some of the most relevant ones for you. Perhaps you could try to participate in them :-)
  - How many of you have Tapioca installed and working? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=388065)
  - Solid Google Talk Alternative? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=310437)
  - What's the best VoIP application for Ubuntu? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=293997) according to this thread, 2 projects supports Google Talk and are on Linux: Gizmo (is freeware: means gratis but not open source, http://gizmoproject.com/) and Coccinella (is Free Software, http://hem.fyristorg.com/matben/)
  - Howto: Google Talk voice support on Ubuntu (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=246717) seems that someone manage to have talk to Gtalk user on Dapper...

Hello Huygens,
Now I could Install tapioca and kopete. The problem now is with connection.
1. Tapioca don't go beyond the login process. (it only shows logging in message but never reach the chat window)
2. Kopete report : There was a connection error: Operation is not supported.
I doubt that my ISP block jabber protocol service, for the same case appear in Gaim. In gaim I could login to MSN account but not gmail too.
I think I should only wait for GOD timing. :-)

Snip, sorry not to have come back to you earlier. My work is quite demanding this days and as it feels like summer outside, I am much less on my computer these days...
How did you solve your problem then? Did you use Psi?

I am happy that it is working for you now :-)

Dear Huygens
My problem is not totally been solved. But when I look back at the title of
my question, I start with ¨Installation procedure for tapioca¨. As I can
install it now I think I better approved that it has been solved. Now I m
still having the problem with connection. For good reference to others I
better Open a new question relevant to connection problem.
Sincerely
Snip

Sad to hear it :-( perhaps once you have created a new ticket, you could post here the link. So that other people that see this answer can follow up if it is not working for them too.
