Problems upgrading Kubuntu from Fiesty to Gutsy using Adept

Asked by nathan

I used Adept to upgrade from Kubuntu Fiesty to Kubuntu Gutsy and it failed. It warned me that some packaged that were installed in Fiesty no longer existed and would be removed with the upgrade. It managed to get to 50% and then stopped.
I noticed when I logged off some of the log off options were missing. When I logged back on the new logon interface looked nice and snazzy. Logged in okay. Got an error on the Adept icon in the task bar and also on the package manager icon (which appeared to be running when I logged in). Errors seemed to be due to another process using the software.
Now Adept has most of the buttons greyed out when I try to autofix the problem. Can't access the internet.
Any ideas?

Is it impossible for you to backup your important data and reformat with Feisty and then do the upgrade?

Or then catch the latest 8.04.1 .iso and get the latest Ubuntu at once. Fresh and nice without a couple of upgrades.

What happens if you open a konsole shell and try:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

?

Can you help with this problem?
