Make Linux Backup/Restore how and where?

Asked by frank_vlamings

Attempted three times to upgrade ATI Graphics Video Driver unsuccessfully. Result. Crashed and required complete (3x) re-install of Kubuntu V7.10. Now I have V8.04. I need a backup system working with Kubuntu. Need to know, how to use it, and where should the image be placed? When system is crashed, how do I restore from my /home directory, if the backup is stored there?
Thanks in advance for your help... Frank

Latest ATI Graphics card driver for my Radeon X1900 is not available for Kubuntu V8.08. Only the generic driver is available. My Express Graphics card has 512MB memory. When I play back a DVD it skips for part of a second, unacceptable. Happens with other DVDs as well. Works without any problems in other OS.

Because of several previous attempts to change the Graphics driver, including other settings, such as a resolution of 1600x1200dpi, I am afraid to make any video changes. unless I have a reliable backup system, so a complete re-installation can be averted... I need to not only know how this backup is made, but also how does one restore, when the computer no longer shows the monitor at boot..? I have installed a /home directory, when Kubuntu was installed initially.... Thanks in advance ... Frank
