format harddisk

Can i install ubuntu without formatting the hd?????????

p.s. like the effectiveness of ubuntu but it takes a more technical approach and that i'm not.

you can format your harddisk when installing windows xp.

tried that but it doesn't work it gives me a message that it couldn't write to the disk (write error) that's why i want to format it within ubuntu before ik install the xp cd

You should boot the livecd and use gparted to remove partitions.

when i start op gparted it says that i am not logged in as a root user but when i try to log in as root user i can't

if you don t need any data from hdd,search for power max and do the thing,this work for me.but my dvice is to keep linux its better then win

Iam useing a western digital hard drive Ineeded to format . I downloaded WDC Data recovery for CD from there site this will make a floppy disk that will work with many drives It worked for me
