NAS SERVER MY BOOK WORLD

Asked by yves.pennec@gmail.com

I am totally new to Linux-Ubuntu (version 9.10). I have installed it and it works fine.

However, I have previously created a home newtework under windows using a modem and a NAS hard drive - the Western Digital My Book World - 1To. The NAS drive is connected to the modem. It works perfectly under windows.

I can acces to the drive set up with Firefox using its IP address 191.168.1.20.
However, there is no way to reach my documents through the standard Linux file explorer and I don't understand much.
I have found a Linux software on the Western Digital site but I am unable to understand how to install it.

Can anyone help with understable explanations for a beginner ? (Linux for dummies ??)
I would greatly appreciate, because if don't find a way to do it, I'll just have to drop Linux. Too much hassle.

Do you have a "Network share" in windows to access the files?
Then you need to do the same in Linux with "samba".

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba#Ubuntu Clients

" Alternate: From the menu at the top select "Location" -> "Connect to a server". In the "Service type" pull down select "Windows share". Enter the server ip address in the "Server:" box and the share name in the "Share:" box. Click "Connect" and then "Connect" again on the second dialog box "

This what the dialog looks like http://lh6.ggpht.com/_uU5cLRayUdQ/Suo_JI2LNPI/AAAAAAAACkA/uftj8XmNIvI/s800/Screenshot-Connect%20to%20Server.png
