ubuntu will not start with new monitor

Asked by Baz

Just got a 22' monitor and hooked it up but Ubuntu 7.10 will not start up. It starts loading and then it says "Out of Range H. Freq 35.5 Khz, V Freq 43.5 Hz." and then nothing Any ideas ? I am really new to Ubuntu and am totally stuck. Its dual boot with Windows XP and that part works fine. Any help will be welcome. Thanks. The computer is an old 800 Mhz Duron with a 40 Gb HDD. Nothing special just a regular old computer.
Thanks for the help
