How do I create a shortcut to Monitor & Display?

Asked by Charlie Figura

Because I use my laptop to run an external projector daily, I need to switch back and forth from 1440x900 to 1024x768 display modes frequently. How can I create a shortcut to the 'Monitor & Display' section on my desktop?

If both display modes have been set up properly in your xorg configuration you can switch between available modes with ctrl-alt-numpad+ and ctrl-alt-numpad-.

Hope this helps.

Roald -

That *almost* helps. It does work correctly, but it does NOT resize the screen real estate.
So when I switch to the 1024x768 mode, I have to scroll the mouse around to see the edges.

Is there a way to adjust for this?

Forgot about that, been some time since I last changed resolution on the fly :)

Been playing around a bit, not been successful yet in changing the screen real estate together with the resolution. One thought that occurred to me is using Twinview/Xinerama to set up a dual screen on the external monitor and use it that way, but I don't have a laptop at hand to try it out. May be worth exploring, but you'll have to google for it. I did read a few side comments about Twinview with the second display set to NULL and effectivly using meta modes to do what you want, but no definitive solution.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but hopefully given you a few pointers (even if they're probably more complex than a shortcut!)

Can you help with this problem?
