my screen resolution wont let me change it

Asked by robert grow

ok my screen resolution is 640x480,...there is one guy here that says he's had the same problem but cant remember how to fix it, but he alswo said something about finding a driver (i have no clue how to do this and if i tried then i would probably screw up my computer beyond repair) unless someone who knew what they was doing sent me step by step instructions on how to do this. will somebody please help me. im tired of having my screen be super big with no side-scroll. (its been like that for a week) my graphics card is a Intel graphics media accelerator x3000.
Derry "try Alt + F2 then displayconfig"
i tried this but it only brought up a thing that wouldn't let me change my resolution anyways.
the way it got jacked in the first place was that my moniter wanted me to change my screen resolution up higher then the computer would let it and i clicked on the wrong thing (made the resolution crappier rather then better)
so if anyone knows what driver I'm supposed to find, what to do with it or whatever. please help cause i'm needing it.

I with you rrobertt, but my screen has such a high resolution that I need a magnifying glass. And when I try to change, the system reboots. I got it to change twice, but then the computer freezes.

Where is the help?

what kind of linux do you have diedreschmied?
i have kubuntu and i suggest this
kmenu
system settings
moniter and display
then lower the bar by ONLY 1 position lower, (i accidently lowered mine to the bottom and it made every thing super huge)
then lower it one notch at a time until it gets to what you want it at.
i hope that helps, cause no one else here will help.
(also, i kinda abandend this site cause of its lack of info givers. my email address if <email address hidden> if you want then i can help you find a site that actually works.) if we cant find any site thats better then this one then we can band together and work it out on our own. :)

rrobertt!

The linux that I am using is Ubuntu. I am beginning to have second thoughts
though. Is one linux different from others?

I don't know what kmenu or system settings are. I get what you are saying
about starting at the bottom and moving up in the settings although I am not
sure how I set these settings.

Presently, I am told that I did something incorrectly and it asks me to
correct something. I am unable to interpret the logfile; perhaps I need to
take a college course on this.

You mentioned that there might be a better site. I think I would like to try
one.

I am able to get the program to identify my monitor but there must be an
incompatability issue with the video card built in the motherboard.
