I'm sorry, are you asking how to configure dual monitors? I am unsure what you are referring to by "split screen."

Are you wanting to view two different items at the same time with both windows open?

Split a current screen session into two regions ctrl-A S
Switch between displayed regions ctrl-A TAB
Return to a single region ctrl-A Q
NOTE: If you ever type "CONTROL-a s" (lowercase "s") by mistake and suspend your shell, just type "CONTROL-a q" to unsuspend it.
