Subtitles in Kaffeine

I am using Kubuntu 9.10 and have installed Kaffeine. It seams to be a limited Kaffeine compared with the one I was using in Kubuntu 8.10. For example it do not display subtitles. I can't find any choice in any menu to turn subtitles on or off or point out for Kaffeine where to look for them. Kaffeine don't recognize a file name with the extension of srt and the name as from the avi- or mpg-file.

How do I turn the subtitles on in Kaffeine?

Hi,

The KDE4 kaffeine version that is included in Kubuntu 9.10 does not have external subtitles support yet, neither has Dragon Player ... It suck imo but whatever ... In your case, either you can use another fully-featured player (I personally use VLC), or you can download an old kaffeine version (for example from http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/kaffeine), make sure that all its dependencies are satisfied and then install it by hand with "dkpg -i" in a terminal.

Thank you for the answer. I used VLC a couple of years ago but switched to Kaffeine since I have a TV-USB-stick connected and it was easier to schedule recordings using Kaffeine. By using Kaffeine I had it all in one place. VLC is good. I use it on Windows. Maybe I try it again or struggle with the manual Kaffeine installation. The aim is to look at films, not to learn Kaffeine, and the package handlers under Kubuntu/Ubuntu is very convenient.
