The package you need to install is called ubuntu-restricted-extras

In Ubuntu the Terminal program can be found in Applications > Accessories. In Kubuntu I think it is in System Tools (but I don't have an installation of Kubuntu to check).

So you install the package, you would type:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

This will install all media codices and a few other non-free packages (java and some fonts from what I recall).

Andy

Ist the one you need... just get the following into your terminal:

Fist:
$ sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/`lsb_release -cs`.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list; sudo apt-get -q update; sudo apt-get --yes -q --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring; sudo apt-get -q update

(the above is really only one line)

Then:
$ sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 non-free-codecs

After this you should be able to play encrypted DVDs (as mostly sold in the stores).

Greetings

I have tried all of the above solutions which completed successfully but I am still told :

This DVD Video is encrypted. To be able to watch it you will need to install libdvdcss by running from a console: sudo /usr/share/doc/kaffeine/install-css.sh. In some countries it is illegal to install the decryption software without permission from the video copyright holder.

Could this be a region problem and if so, how do i address it?

I have tried a number of DVDs and they all behave the same.

This is a Kubuntu box running Kaffeine 0.8.6

Any help would be most appreciated
