No sound playing mkv file using Kaffeine 0.8.6 on Kubuntu 8.04

Asked by ntuple

File plays fine with MPlayer. Thought I read there was a fix for this but being new to Kubuntu haven't found where a patch would be.

thanks

try adding the medibuntu codecs:

I did that and on reboot Kaffeine tells met the codecs have already been installed so there's no need to reinstall them.

I still can't hear the sound using Kaffeine or in Konqueror when I open the file which I assume also uses Kaffeine.

thanks

sorry i'm not familiar with Kaffeine. can you try to play the file with vlc instead?

sudo apt-get install vlc

Thanks for your help but I can already watch it with sound using Mplayer. I'm just looking to do it in Kaffeine.

I know a fix is out there but I just don't know how to get it.

then the first step to resolving your problem is finding out what the audio file is inside the mkv file.
