Kaffeine crashed opening xine Engine Parameters

Asked by pmh

Hello!
If this is a common problem, I really beg you pardon, to disturb you! In spite of long-time searching in different forums and wikis I didn't find anything about this problem.
Just after installing Kubuntu 7.04 had some sound problems with Kaffeine 0.8.3. I tryed to change the sound driver (Treiber) and it resulted that I wasn't able anymore to start Kaffeine, playing a DVD. (what worked before!) Trying, I just get a bug-message from KDE-Crashmanager. The problem is, that I am not able to change the setings, because I get only the Crashmanager if I try to open xine Engine parameters. Also desinstalling and again installing xine and kaffeine didn't changed the problem.
I hope there is a solution for this problem. Thank you a lot!!!
(Sorry for not being able to provide further information. I'm just a user not a programmer, not yet...)

I cannot provide you with a real solution to your problem, but you can always delete the configuration files for xine and kaffeine. That way all your customizations (of these two applications) will be lost of course.
You will end up with pristine configurations that should at least play DVDs again (if they did it before).

To do this you have to open a shell, in Kubuntu you will probably use "konsole"

$ rm -rf ~/.xine
$ rm ~/.kde/share/config/kaffeinerc
$ rm -rf ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/

I hope that gets your DVDs playing again.

best regards
tillmann

Thank you a lot, this makes play my movies again.
but the sound is not very loud in kaffeine. if i change the audio driver from auto to oss, it is louder but the next time i start kaffeine it crashes and I have to remove
-rf ~/.xine,
~/.kde/share/config/kaffeinerc
-rf ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/
so maybe i have to make a skript to do this every time I start kaffeine automatically? I am new in linux but I am really interressed to learn some thing about that...
thank you, martin

Thank "Tillmann Falck"!!!
I had the same problem in Xine-ui and Kaffeine. In both, the problem has been originated when in the Xine parameters I set Audio and Video Buffer = 0 (In "engine" tab). I have solved it removing the configuration files.
Bye.
