Depends on what your burning - If you have a audio/video dvd structure folder - then it's video dvd. If you have a DVD.iso image, under "further actions" - burn DVD iso image.

i have an avi file that i would like to convert to dvd

You'll need either devede, or tovidgui

Just sudo apt-get install them

Paste the relevant error messages. You could try apt-get update, apt-get upgrade first - Synaptic has a "fix broken packages" option also.

Can you help with this problem?
