no cd/dvd writer found - adding cd writer to kubuntu

Asked by simon james

Hi,
(very new to Kubuntu) ,

I have added a CD writer to my system, plugged in all the hardware connections, power etc, now I suppose I need to do something to tell the system about the new cd drive (add hardware, mount the drive plug and play ?), so that program like K3b can find it to burn cd's etc.

Please advise
( I have Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy, I guess I need to upgrade and will do when I find out how and to what version, but am in a hurry to use the cd writer, in the meantime)

I look forward to your reply

Many Thanks
Simon James

Hardy desktop support is EOL. Hardy is now only supported on the server. The earliest desktop supported is Lucid. I suggest you upgrade

Just put a blank disk in it and try it.

Can you help with this problem?
