Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu website in Firefox into the Linux Terminal. Do NOT copy-paste from the Email message into the Terminal, as that will only copy PART of the command. The command STARTS with the word sudo and ENDS with the word restart. So please copy-paste the ENTIRE command below from Firefox into a Terminal, press <enter>, then enter password when sudo asks for password, then press enter again.

sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; sudo lshw -C usb; uname -a; dmesg | grep ound; dmesg | grep b43; dmesg | grep iwl; iwconfig; sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread

Regards,

Mark

sorry, don't know how to get rid of the triplicate. Also, when I installed 9.10, 9.04 didn't go away. Was it supposed to? and I keep getting this MS Windows dire virus message on 9.04--scare tactic? sorry about the delay and thanks for taking the time. if I was as smart as you and you were as stupid as me, I don't know if I would.

According to the output you just sent, your wireless card is working fine and can detect 6 different wireless networks in your vicinity.

Have you tried to connecting to your wireless access point using NetworkManager? What is the name of your wireless access point?

If you cannot connect to your access point using NetworkManager (icon in the top right corner of the screen), then try disabling encryption and enable SSID broadcasting on your wireless router.

If that does not help, you can run the following 2 commands to replace NetworkManager with wicd:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install wicd

If you decide to install wicd, you will need to reboot afterwards to be able to see the wicd icon in the Ubuntu panel.

Here is more info about wicd:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicd_%28Linux_Network_Manager%29

Here is more info about NetworkManager:

Hope this helps a bit.
