Jigdo is short for "Jigsaw Download." It is mostly used for ISOs (or CD and DVD images). It is also known to be used for other very large files over the internet; however, .torrents seem to have taken over .jigdos. But if you'd still like to use this file type there are a few clients to choose from. I recommend opening up Synaptic and searching for "jigdo". You should get a few client results. Install a few and play around with them.

The only jigdo client I know of, and use, is jigdo-lite.

Sincerely,

Craig

You can read more about the file format on Wikipidia:

Thanks.
Already I see the above site and download jidgo-lite
But it has a bit problem when i try to download jidgo file from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/release/source/ (Filename is :ubuntu-8.10-src-1.jigdo ).

I download jidgo-lite and run jigdo-lite.bat
Follow process and when it go to download file it show severally this message : "404 not found"

Also in this process the jidgo-lite do not show any option to select file. I think it want to download all File.

What is problem?

Do you have Jigdo installed? Jigdo is not only a "download" solution, but also a packaging solution. Keep this in mind for the future.

Do not download the jidgo file directly.

Run the jigdo-lite script. It will ask for the URL of a ".jigdo" file to process. You should also be able to supply that URL on the command line if you like (if you're running jidgo-lite or jidgo directly from a terminal).

I.E. - URL = http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/release/source/ubuntu-8.10-src-1.jigdo
**Remember: Each ".jigdo" file corresponds to one .iso file (or CD/DVD image file).**
Just press Enter at the "Files to scan" prompt. It will scan for the files for you. This may take a few moments for it to process. It is processing/scanning the files live.

It may ask you for a mirror location, if it does have this ready. Usually, in my experience, it is better to use FTP servers with .jidgo and large file downloads. Be ready to enter a country code for your own sake (UK, DE, UK, etc.). This helps with the mirroring process.

Follow the instructions presented to you. All should go well.

And yes: You need to download all files.

To make sure you have jidgo installed, enter a terminal and type:
sudo aptitude install jigdo-file

I have a similar problem

Have installed jigdo

It downloads most of the files

but claims there are still files to come and then gives me the 404 file not found error

for eg

Reusing existing connection to ubuntu.mirror.ac.za:80.

Vijay,

Do you mind opening a separate question for your problem?

Also, include the version of Ubuntu you are running and the command you are using with the output of the command if possible. If it's too long you can use http://pastebin.ca/ and give us the address. The more details the better.

Thanks!

Can you help with this problem?
