Unable to install package "iscsitarget"

Asked by MaTrIx

Distribution: Ubuntu 7.10 (AMD64)

There does not seem to be any functional iSCSI target package for Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64. A fix or workaround to this bug is needed ASAP.

Terminal log:
sudo apt-get install iscsitarget

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
iscsitarget: Depends: iscsitarget-module but it is not installable

Try sudo aptitude install iscsitarget

Some times aptitude gets you out of tricky situations which apt doesn't.

If you're still having problems please create a bug on launchpad.

Cheers

Chris

For the time being, please use the package open-iscsi. One of the possible reasons why iscsi-target is not installable is because it's only available in source form. According to its project website http://sourceforge.net/projects/iscsitarget/ it is currently in beta and according to bug #150663 it's unstable.

From what I can tell, open-iscsi is only an initiator, and therefore can not be used as a substitute for iscsi-target. This bug should be considered of fairly high priority, seeing as it is preventing the only open source iSCSI target package for Ubuntu 7.10 from being installed.

Indeed. A bug has been reported on this particular issue already, the one I referenced earlier was just a stability issue, could be related to the amd64 platform. You can keep track of the progress here: https://launchpad.net/bugs/145539

Can you help with this problem?
