upgrade to lastest unified ping ?

Asked by David Heidelberg

After long time inactivity of main iputils project, there has been merged all important patches and made rework to ping which is now able handle ping -4 & ping -6 = IPV4 and 6 in one.

Would you be interested to include new ping?

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner.

Short survey of the version of iputils:

Ubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iputils
3:20121221 in trusty to xenial
3:20101006 in precise

Debian:
https://packages.debian.org/search?searchon=sourcenames&keywords=iputils
3:20150815 in sid and stretch
3:20121221 in jessie
3:20101006 in wheezie

You have to be aware that Ubuntu is taking over software from Debian.

If that new version offers additional functionality and works well, then it should of course also be introduced in Debian and Ubuntu.

I suggest that you create a bug report, both for Ubuntu and Debian, to stimulate packaging the new version.

Can you help with this problem?
