When I'm trying to wipe clean and reisstall all fresh install it will go to Language then time zone then Key Board then set up partion, inside partition there is nothing to chose to install to. The question is how do I chose all of disk?

Asked by oocevin

I did some thing to Kubuntu so I need to wipe clean and do a
full reinstatement of Kubuntu 10.0. But at the partition it does not show
any thing to chose to install it.
How can I fix this

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Please follow installation guide.

The thing is when I get to (Prepare Partitions) there is no such thing as How do you want to prepare the disk, No erase and use entire disk, or any thing. It's totally blank.
That is why I can't reinstall Kubuntu.

Hi :)

When you are installing please use the "Manual" or "Advanced" partitioning and try to set-up the following partitions

sda1 Primary Partition 8Gb, ext3, change it's Mount Point to /
sda2 Primary Partition size = 2 x Ram, linux-swap, no mount point
sda3 Primary Partition filling the rest of the drive, ext3, change it's Mount Point to /home

|To find out how much ram your machine has please get to a command-line and try

free -m

The first value for "Mem" is your ram
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hello, I do not know what happened but when I disconnected the used
CD ROM and replugged my sons it worked. Must not been plugged in
all the way or some thing. It is hectic when one does not know much
when that happens one pulls a lot of hair.
Thank You!

Hi :)

it is always a good idea to post questions in here
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion
at a fairly early stage because it often takes us some time to respond. If you haven't had answers within the first couple of days then just re-post the question.

I tend to post first and then try to find answers myself. If i do 'win the race' and get an answer first it is easy to post the answer and close the question. The chances are that if 1 person has trouble with something then many others will be suffering the same issue but might be too shy to ask. By getting the question answered you/we help a lot of those people too. There's no need to struggle on alone all the time.

It's good to hear a "waggle the wires" answer appears to have solved this but it would be interesting to see if your own cd/dvd-drive works under linux. Usually these sorts of devices are fairly generic and have no incompatibility issues (thanks to a lot of hard work by linux developers) but i guess it still happens sometimes. Also it's possible that the cd/dvd-drive has done 1 read/write too many and needs to think about retiring. I have a real work-horse of a cd-drive that still plays fine but can't record any-more, it's outlasted several machines.

Since you have successfully installed ubuntu it is well worth working through the Medibuntu worksheet
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
to get pretty much all the multimedia issues sorted in one easy(ish) session. Also remember to get "Adblock Plus" in
Firefox - Tools - AddOns - "Get AddOns"
for safer and faster web-browsing

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
