installation of ubuntu

I have installed ubuntu in windows. When try to start ubuntu password is wanting. I do not remember whether any password was used durind installation or the password also. please help.

very simple ....decide how much space you need for the OS and about 20 GB is more than enough including 500MB to 700 MB for SWAP file system,,,,
you need to boot with linux CD and then it will keep asking you simple questions for initial setup eg kepboard language US location and things like that...then when partitioner comes into picture you should be very careful as now you are going to format the hard disk for the linux keep about 20GB in ext3 files system as root(/) and other about 5-700MB as swap file system...you can select the partition manually ... select the last option then press enter it will take you to next page and now you make the changes then apply for ext3 filesystem and then create swap file system for swap also...
thereafter let it install and rest everything is automatic..
the above mentioned procedure to follow in case you are having Windows installed and having some important files on hdd....still it is better to copy .backup the data on dvd as you are new and make mistakes....

on the 5th page of install it ask what is your name , then it ask what name do you want to use to log in,then your password. if you do not remember this page will help
