Asked by fpiraneo

Just if you can publish valid links for a complete installation guide; on InterNetNews website I can only find the rel. 2.x documentation.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation

The basic is:

1. Boot to CD
2. Click the install icon on desktop
3. Follow onscreen instructions

I think that you missed that I'm referring to INN 1.x package in details not to Ubuntu itself... ;-) (That had a very clear and straightforward installation procedure!!!!!)

i did a search to see what internetnews is. it's targeted to a specific audience.

fpiraneo, you have to understand that the people on this forum help people with issues specific to ubuntu/linux. the thing you want installed is not ubuntu/linux specific, so you shouldn't get upset.

oh. packages are pretty easy to install in linux, unlike windoze.

if you give us the complete name of the file you're trying to install, we might be able to help you get it running.

Packages are easy to install but need to be configured properly to make them run.

I'm posting on a Q&A page of INN package release 1.x so I need document about this package; unfortunately on the official page of INN I've found only documents related to release 2.x that is not suggested to simple news server like mine.

Beyond that I think that there is a big misunderstanding because I'm posting on launchpad inn's page so it seems to be clear that I'm referring to this package; question: May be that this message is replicated in other forum?

To install inn you must enable the universe repository then you can install it from software-center or from terminal.

http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/

Here the Ubuntu description of package:

This is INN version 1.x, provided for smaller sites which do not need the
complexity of INN 2.x. Large sites should use Debian's inn2 package instead.

The news transport is the part of the system that stores the articles and the
lists of which groups are available and so on, and provides those articles on
request to users. It receives news (either posted locally or from a newsfeed
site), files it, and passes it on to any downstream sites. Each article is
kept for a period of time and then deleted (this is known as `expiry').

By default Debian's INN will install in a fairly simple `local-only'
 configuration.

In order to make use of the services provided by INN you'll have to use a
user-level newsreader program such as trn. The newsreader is the program that
fetches articles from the server and shows them to the user, remembering which
the user has seen so that they don't get shown again. It also provides the
 posting interface for the user.

Can you help with this problem?
