How do I print landscape in Inkskape?

Asked by Ampers

There is no easy way to find out how to print landscape in Inkscape. I am trying to produce a PDF of a Christmas card to send to all my overseas friends so they can print it out and put it on their mantlepiece.

I can print out in portrait mode.

I can design in Inkscape in Landscape mode.

When I come to print out, there seems no way to change the printer to print in Landscape.

Did you try Shift+Ctrl+D and change your draw to landscape

As I said above, drawing in Landscape is no problem. I can design in Landscape mode and when I checked with Shift+Ctrl+D it confirmed what I could see on the screen. That I was in Landscape mode.

But it will only print in Portrait mode and, of course, I lose half of my artwork.

Apparently, printing to landscape is an ancient and still alive bug that haunts most of the applications in Ubuntu. My suggestion is that you print it as file, which will create a pdf out of it. Then open the PDF with Adobe Reader, print it using portrait as paper direction, and enabling auto-rotate.

Which means you have to go and download Adobe Reader for the sake of it, as I don't think other PDF readers have the auto-rotate function needed to print landscape on portrait.

To print in landscape mode in Inkscape, follow these steps:

Open the document you want to print in Inkscape.
Click on "File" in the top menu bar and select "Print" from the dropdown menu.
In the Print dialog box, click on the "Properties" or "Preferences" button (depending on your printer).
Look for an option called "Orientation" or "Print Orientation." Click on the dropdown menu next to it.
Select "Landscape" from the options.
Make any other necessary adjustments to the print settings (such as paper size, quality, or number of copies).
Click on the "Print" button to start the printing process.
Alternatively, you can also press "Ctrl + P" (Windows) or "Cmd + P" (Mac) to bring up the Print dialog box and follow the same steps above.
