Editing svg text strange behavior Linux Mint 17.1

When I edit the text in the enclosed svg, the behavior seems wrong. If I try and place my cursor somewhere in the text, the cursor does not appear where intended and then deleting or adding charachters adds them in another location entirely. Using curos arrow keys does not seem to move cursor location as expected.

Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community in any way. It's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. Please use the Mint forum posted earlier.
