this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu, but only detected an i686 cpu. unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your cpu

Having issues getting started. One version of Ubuntu gives me this. The other says kernel Kill and closes. Not sure hwat to do to get started.

Your CPU is 32bit and you have downloaded the 64bit ISO. You cannot run a 64bit OS. Download the 32bit version of Ubuntu and it will work. Remember to MD5 test the file you download if you don't use torrents
