U might try the DVD version of Ubuntu which has a larger repertory of software burnt in and possibly additional drivers. It is possible that the CD(if that’s what ur using) may not come with the native drivers to run ur hardware. The DVD also gives additional options to get Ubuntu installed on your computer....Good luck!
PS Of course make sure U have A DVD drive to boot the DVD disk.

I can't even get the live disk to boot. I put the disk in, go to the
bios set it up to boot from cd/dvd rom drive. Ubuntu starts booting, I
get to the splash screen/progress bar where the orange bar glides back
and forth, then dumps me into that weird prompt.
