11.03.27+repack-0ubuntu1 now displaying in colour

Asked by Ian J Cottee

I am not sure if this is a bug or intended. Having just done a dist-upgrade on Natty Beta, the weather indicator is currently showing in color whereas before it was just white (thus matching the style of the other icons in the indicator area).

For consistency I would prefer the previous look. Is this behavior intended?

Weather Indicator uses default icons from your icon theme. Please, check that the theme has not been changed or icons updated during the dist-upgrade.

Thanks for the reply.

My icon set is ubuntu-mono-dark. Having poked around some more I can see that the mono icon sets don't have a weather-clear.svg icon (which would appear to be what should be showing). I have also found that if I switch to a location where the weather is not clear I get the correct mono image.

Some more experimenting has shown that if I switch to a different icon theme, changing to Humanity, Humanity-Dark, Ubuntu-mono-dark and ubuntu-mono-light all have no effect when the weather is clear. Switching to the other themes does change it.

In short. It appears that when the weather is clear, indicator-weather is resorting to some 'default' clear icon when using the Humanity or Ubuntu Mono icon sets.

Well

I have just come back to my laptop having not looked at it for a couple of hours and the indicator is now displaying the correct icon!

I am going to install a new machine today to see if I can replicate the issue but am baffled as to why it wasn't working and why it is now.

It seems to have picked up the weather-clear.svg icon, that I copied over from Humanity icon set. It hadn't picked it up before, even having rebooted after copying it in. Will report back on what my next install does.

Try following command after icons were copied:
gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/gnome/

OK, final conclusions.

From a straight Natty Beta CD install, up to the latest updates, the icon for clear weather is in full colour and doesn't match the rest of the theme. Copying the weather-clear.svg icon from humanity dark into the ubuntu-mono-dark directory and running the gtk-update-icon-cache command as per Vadim's suggestion allows for that icon to be used. Thanks for that Vadim.

Should I file the lack of a correct icon for ubuntu-mono-dark and ubuntu-mono-light as a bug ?

Felix has already submitted this - see bug #748861

Closing the question, as in new version of Weather Indicator the missing file is being copied to ubuntu-mono icon theme folder

Can you help with this problem?
