User displayed as "Invalid UTF-8" on right side of task bar

Asked by David W. Walter on 2011-10-17

After the upgrade to 11.10 the user ID on the right side of the task bar is displayed as "Invalid UTF-8". This machine has several user accounts installed on it. They all seem to work OK (log in/out, permissions, etc.) Looking at System Settings --> User Accounts all user accounts are indicated correctly. Any ideas on how I can get the Task Bar to display the account that is logged in to?
