Indicator applet icons not lit up after Ununtu 20.04 upgrade.

Asked by Paul Hunter

I recently updated Ubuntu from 18.04.5 to 20.04. I'm using GNOME Flashback (Metacity) desktop, and the indicator icons in the top-right of the screen (internet connection icon, language, mailbox, battery, speaker, system gear icon) are black (not lit up) so that you can hardly see them. The time/date is lit up (i.e. it is white and perfectly visible as it was in 18.04.5). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a different icon theme

This worked. Thank you kindly. The procedure I followed was this:

1) See the link: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-tweak-tool-on-ubuntu-20-04-lts-focal-fossa-linux
This describes how to Install the Tweaks Tool
2) Open the Tweaks Tool (Applications -> System Tools -> Preferences -> Tweaks)
3) Set 'Icons' to Ubuntu-mono-dark

All Indicator-applet icons are now back to their normal state.
