iftop line drawing problem

Asked by hasgarion

Env:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04
Codename: trusty

iftop, version 1.0pre2

I tried iftop with Win32/putty and the line drawings are broken.

'
When running iftop in the de_CH.UTF8 locale, the ruler lines are shown as follows:

12.5Kb 25.0Kb 37.5Kb 50.0Kb 62.5Kb
mqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqvqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqvqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqvqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqvqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq
'

The bug is described in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=419660 but seems not fixed so far.
However, the workaround

' When using PuTTY in UTF-8 mode, you have to execute
"NCURSES_NO_UTF8_ACS=1 iftop" in the future. '

works for me.

I'm not sure wether a bug report here seems appropriate or should be made on the iftop's project page.
