Delete key does not work in mysql console after update to 9.10

After updating to 9.10, the mysql console is not working as before. the Delete key on my 101 key keyboard now inserts a tilde (~) instead of removing the character. Is this due to the ibus, or am i barking up the wrong tree?
Note: The delete key works just fine in the gnome-terminal window
