ubuntu updates and skype

Asked by Ville Kosonen

I have basic Ubuntu 12.10.
Installed skype via cli.
however sometimes it works and sometimes not (maybe related to youtube audio)
anyway when i get it going smoothly the updates for Ubuntu makes it totally bad,
Echoes, buzzing sound and ,,, impossible to use.
I have tried all skype settings and also Ubuntu sound settings... many times.
Installed Ubuntu from cd again and again, tried CLI and software center... bad though.
Computer is HP Pavilion g7 with AMD 64bit.
Can You give me some advice.... please.

Hi ,
we cannot help you with Skype. Why ?
Because Skype for Linux is a closed source software and maintained by Microsoft. So the developers of Ubuntu cannot do much.

The only suggestion I can make is to try to use another service such as Google+ Hangouts
or
post your problem here
http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/bd-p/Linux

and wait for an update that might fix the issue.

Another suggestion that can correct some problems (but not for sure) is this command in terminal

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

OR

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

and see if works better.

Thank you
