i2c-2 error on upgraded kernel 5.0.0-21-generic

Asked by Hans Peter

Hi!

I installed a new kernel, version 5.0.0-21-generic in Ubuntu.

On boot, systemd shows me this error:
kernel: [ 14.509890] i2c i2c-2: SMBus Timeout!
kernel: [ 14.509952] i2c i2c-2: Failed reset at end of transaction (01)
kernel: [ 14.510064] i2c i2c-2: Failed! (01)

I blacklisted these i2c modules but this did not help. i2c-2 error is still present

at boot.

blacklist i2c_algo_bit
blacklist i2c_core
blacklist i2c_dev
blacklist i2c_i801
blacklist i2c_hid
blacklist i2c_piix4

How to fix these errors on boot?

Please help, thanks!

If you boot an older kernel is it OK?

Yes, with "4.15.0-54-generic" all is fine, no errors on boot.

I suggest you report a bug with the other kernel version

I upgraded to from kernel "4.15.0-54-generic" to "5.0.0-21-generic", rebooted my system
and the i2c-2 errors appears on boot.

I blacklist a few modules about "sensors"...

blacklist adt7475
blacklist hwmon_vid
blacklist i2c_piix4
blacklist it87
blacklist k10temp

Now the i2c-2 errors are gone on boot but a new error appears on boot:

kernel: [ 3614.068109] db_root: cannot open: /etc/target
