Intel Inbusiness Print Station

Asked by g

I have Ubuntu and new to it,
I have a INTEL INBUSINESS PRINT STATION that works great in Windows....BUT!
I can not get it to print with Ubuntu....( 9.10 )

I have the following info on the print-server ( ie Print station )

 I can ping 192.168.1.4 and i returns
    64 bytes from 192.168.1.4: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=1.80 ms (just pasted the first line )

IF I ping PS717E07 it returns
64 bytes from PS717E07.home (192.168.1.4): icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=0.874 ms (again just the first line in the ping )

The printer is an HP LaserJet 4P .....
If hook it to my computers printer port the printer works fine.
If I use a USB to Parallel port adapter the printer works fine.

I have used this Intel print station since windows 98 , Works fine in ALL windows OS....
I have a few other computers that are networked and I do LOVE to be able to print across my network from ANY
  computer.

P L E A S E.................
I have pulled the last strand of my hair out trying to get this is work.........

I HAVE tried ipp http other even smba with no luck...

I have entered the url with every option possible....
       ://192.168.1.4/lpt1
        ://ps717e07/printer1

I have tried every combo with ip address ps717e07 lp1 lpt1 lpr lpd etc.....

I have been searching for DAYS....and trying every line in any message I have seen....still no go.

I do know Intel no longer makes the product.....

   1.
Click: Systems > Administration > Printing

            Server > Settings
   2.

If this computer only acts as a Client (it has no printers attached that need to be shared), select the first box.
          * Show printers shared by other systems
If this computer acts as both a Client and a Server select the first two boxes.
          * Show printers shared by other systems
          * Publish shared printers connected to this server
   3.

      Select the OK button.

In a few seconds the Printer Configuration window will update and icons for the printer/s attached to the Server will be shown.
