Cut margins problem (HP LaserJet 1018)

Asked by aetas

All my steps:

1) I've just installed fresh Ubuntu 9.04 Release Candidate
2) I pluged and turned my HP LaserJet 1018 printer
3) Ubuntu found it and opened setup window for "plugin download". Everything was successful.
4) I tried to print test page, but it was just "Job completed" without printing anything.
5) I fount, that I need to install hplip-gui, but noting changed.
6) I tried to change driver (Menu: System->Administration->Printing->HP_LaserJet_1018->"Make and model"->Change), but also nothing new.
7) I installed new printer by runing hp-setup (I name it HP_LaserJet_1018_2)
8) printing works, but:

when I try to print (with "HP_LaserJet_1018") this:
http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/HP_LaserJet_1018.odt
result looks like this:
http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/HP_LaserJet_1018.png

when I try to print (with "HP_LaserJet_1018_2"):
http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/HP_LaserJet_1018_2.odt
result looks a bit different:
http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/HP_LaserJet_1018_2.png

"hp-check -t" result I put here:
http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/hp-check_-t_result

Some time before, when I used Ubuntu 8.04 and same printer was installed by running hplip-2.8.12.run (or maybe older - I'm not sure now), everything worked fine.

And I don't know now, what to do...

Thanks in advance.

What is the "Page Size" or "Media Size" configured for under Printer Options in the Printing Administration tool (Sytem -> Administration -> Printing, Right Click on the Printer -> Properites -> Printer Options (on the left))?

I had this problem when all of my paper was set to A4, when I was in fact printing to US Letter. Make sure that the size you are printing to matches the paper size that you are loading into the printer.

When using HP Device manager with "Page Size: A4" (see http://originalus.lt/tmp/hplip/HP_DeviceManager.png) I tried to print Test page ("Actions" -> "Print Test Page") "Imageable Area" information is:

Page Size: 8.5x11.0in (215.9x279.4mm)
Lower-Left: 0.0x0.0in (0.0x0.0mm)
Upper-Right: 8.5x11.0in (2.15.9x279.4mm)
Resolution 600.x600dpi (23562x23562dpm)

According to these numbers it seems that it Letter, but everywhere I fount, I was changed it to A4... Maybe it is possible to look or change this by using command line or editing setting file?

Also, I tried to install old Ubuntu 8.04 and hplip-2.8.12.run to VirtualBox and print Test Page directly from it. That page was OK...

I also have the same problem on a HP Laserjet 4000. This didn't happen before... Perhaps we should file a bug report?

I also have the same problem on a HP LaserJet 1020, on Kubuntu 9.04. This is really annoying.

On https://launchpad.net/hplip is written that end users have to "Ask question" and not "Bug report" is for developers. So should we wait until developer read this, or just click "Click bug report" on the right?

As I understood, this bug is now fixed (and my printer now prints normally).

Thank you for everyone.
